What is broadband?
Broadband is high-speed access to the Internet - a global network that connects you to resources, information, people and products quickly and easily.
Why is it important?
Economic Development and E-Commerce
Broadband can help create new jobs, encourage entrepreneurship and attract new industries.
Telehealth and Telemedicine
People who live in remote areas or can't travel easily can receive remote consultations, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring from health care professionals without having to leave their homes.
Education, Culture and Entertainment
You can take an online course, home school a child with online resources, check in on your child's grades and homework, watch a speech from a university thousands of miles away, watch a television show you missed, or find out which movies are playing at your local cinema.
Public Safety and Homeland Security
Broadband can help protect the public by enabling remote security monitoring, real-time background checks and early warning or public alert systems.
E-Government
You can easily interact with government agencies, as more and more resources and forms become available online.
